Where the company night out actually happens
Somebody in the office has been handed the year-end dinner and dance, and the first question is always the same: where? These notes are for that person. They look at the kinds of place Singapore companies tend to choose for an evening do, and at the small practical things that decide whether the night runs smoothly or turns into hard work.
Our working rule: choose the room for the moments that must happen in it. A view, a landmark or a famous address is a bonus. A stage everyone can see and a way home for everyone is the job.
The notes
- A dance floor in a museum: holding a lively staff party in a heritage building by the river.
- Shortlisting rooms on Orchard Road: telling similar ballrooms and function rooms apart.
- Evenings on the bay waterfront: the skyline, the crowds and the drop-off queue.
- A gala night in a hotel ballroom: seating, sightlines and lighting for a formal evening.
- A party at the airport: what changes when the venue sits at the eastern edge of the island.
How to read them
Each note is short and ends with a few questions to carry into a venue visit. None of them replaces a conversation with the venue's own events team, and capacities, house rules and setup windows change often, so check current details with the venue before you book anything.
If any part of your evening is outdoors, keep an eye on the forecast from the Meteorological Service Singapore in the days before the event.
